What is UTC all about?
Exploring life, exploring hope in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
United Theological College is an inclusive community of women and men from a vibrant diversity of cultural backgrounds who are committed to theological enquiry and the practice of the Christian faith.
The college is committed to the exploration and nurture of a Christian faith for a pilgrim people ‘on the way’. It cherishes the ecumenical and reformed traditions of the Uniting Church, and seeks to ‘give an account of the hope that is within us’ for a new time, a new place, a new context.
UTC aspires for an understanding of the Christian faith which speaks into a public domain that is increasingly both secular and multi-faith.The college is committed to fostering a practice of ministry that is both faithful to the traditions of the church, and responsive to the church's changing cultural circumstances.
UTC is located in Sydney. It is constituted within the New South Wales Synod of the Uniting Church in Australia, and it is part of the Charles Sturt University School of Theology.
UTC seeks to provide theological education and ministerial formation for:
- Those preparing for specified ministries in the Uniting Church;
- Anyone seeking an intelligent and deepening understanding of the Christian faith;
- Undergraduate university students studying theology as part of their degree in some other subject;
- Postgraduate and research students in theology and ministry studies.
UTC is grounded in the ecumenical, reformed and evangelical traditions of the Uniting Church. It is inspired by the Uniting Church’s Basis of Union which aspires after a faith which is established in a biblical witness open to ongoing scholarship and contemporary insight.
