UTC Mission Statement:
- UTC will provide theological leadership for the Australian church and society. The College will recognise the theological needs of church and community within a post-modern, post-Christendom society. In the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, UTC will explore ways of developing new understandings of faith and new ways of being church within this rapidly changing society.
- Teaching at UTC will be broad, varied and creative
- Teaching at UTC will reflect a broad range of theology and scholarship. A highly qualified faculty will offer academic excellence and invite students to engage in critical and contextual reflection upon the bible, theology and other areas of study. Students will be encouraged to explore their own perspectives as well as those of other scholars and other contexts.
- UTC will provide diverse and creative modes of teaching with a varied curriculum. Traditional core areas of theological and ministerial studies will be combined with multicultural and “cutting edge” approaches. Students will be encouraged to integrate their studies and make connections with non-theological disciplines.
- Teaching will be offered in flexible modes. In responding to the variety of students within the College, UTC will provide opportunity for learning through diverse forms of teaching including:
- regular day and evening classes
- intensive programs in summer and winter schools (usually of one week’s duration)
- extensive programs (single full days spread over the semester)
- regional schools
- independent guided studies and individual mode
- research supervision
- UTC will take seriously the Asian and Pacific contexts. This commitment to the Asia and Pacific regions will be reflected in the membership of the student body, teaching staff, teaching style and content.
- UTC will be a major provider of ministerial and theological education. The College will provide courses for a variety of people, including:
- those preparing for Uniting Church ministries
- lay people seeking an intelligent and challenging faith
- ministers and lay people undertaking continuing education
- university students studying theology as part of their degree
- chaplains, religious educators, parish ministers and lay people seeking leadership training for Christian Education
