Cross-institutional Study
United Theological College (UTC) recognises that knowledge, understanding and skills achieved through previous training/education, work and life experiences can be used as evidence for formal recognition. This enables applicants who have already attained that which would normally be attained by successfully completing.
College subjects to be granted recognition for, and also exemption from subjects in United Theological College’s courses. The maximum amount of RPL available is 144 credit points (undergraduate), 54 credit points (graduate), and 18 credit points (postgraduate).
The RPL process and policy followed by UTC is in line with current university practices. It is also a process that requires applicants to provide adequate evidence that RPL is justified. If such evidence is not provided RPL cannot be granted.
If you are interested in applying for RPL towards a course at the UTC, you will need to follow these steps:
1) Study the course description of the course
2) Study the subject description for the subject (s)
3) If, after having proceeded to this point, you think that you may be entitled to RPL for one or more subjects, note the subject ID(s) and name(s) of the subject(s). Then complete a Request for a Recognition of Prior Learning Application Pack and forward it to The Course Coordinator, United Theological College, 16 Masons Drive, North Parramatta 2151.
Another option is to tick the box on the application form that asks if you would like to include a review of your previous study by the course coordinator and they can assess if you can receive any credits. You must include a verified photocopy of your transcript for review and when your application is being processed this will also be processed automatically.
Below is an example of the different types of evidence that can be submitted to demonstrate the extent to which you have attained listed subject outcomes:
• Academic Transcripts or Statements of Attainment;
• module, subject or topic descriptions from other institutions;
• module, subject or topic curriculum outlines from other institutions;
• module, subject or topic worksheets from other institutions;
• samples of your work;
• supervisors' reports, making specific reference to your attainment of specific objectives of modules;
• portfolios;
• publications or papers you have written;
• outlines of presentations you have given;
• manuals or books you have written;
• studies you have prepared;
• feedback from people you have taught; or
• anything else relevant to the outcomes of the subject in question.
If an overseas student is granted RPL which leads to a shortening of the student’s course, UTC will do one of the following:
• If the RPL is granted before a visa is granted, UTC must indicate the actual net course duration (as reduced by RPL) in the ECoE issued for that student for that course.
• If the RPL is granted after visa grant, UTC must report the change of course duration via PRISMS under s19 of the ESOS Act 2000. In such cases the student is reminded that it is a condition of their visa that they be enrolled in full-time study. If they finish their course early, the student must either enrol in another CRICOS
registered course or depart Australia immediately unless they have been given authorisation by DIMA to remain in Australia.
If UTC grants an overseas student RPL which leads to a reduced study load, UTC will not allow the student to study less than a full-time load.
If you require further information or would like to discuss RPL, please contact the Course Coordinator.
