The educational content and methods of UTC are based on the following principles:
The college is an institution of Christian learning. It assumes the primacy of the scriptures of the Hebrew people and the Christian church as its authoritative source of wisdom. The college stands in the reformed, evangelical and catholic tradition of Christian learning.
UTC assumes a method of critical inquiry; this means that all texts, opinions, and practices are open to critical inspection in terms of their claim to truth.
UTC’s approach is contextual, which is to assume that the meanings of texts, statements and practices are not finally accessible apart from a consideration of the contexts in which they occur.
Methods are collaborative, in which both the accumulated learning of teachers and the life experience of students is honoured.
The college is committed to both academic inquiry and formation for ministerial practice. The college seeks to allow the church’s mission to shape its life and work.
