UCA Deacon’s Biennial Gathering in Sydney

United Theological College will again be part of the Biennial gathering of Deacons from across Australia, 4 – 15 February 2019.

From Monday 4 – Friday 15 February 2019 Deacons from around Australia will gather in Sydney for their annual gathering – an opportunity for professional development, community, learning and development for deacons in formation.

Bringing together current Deacons and those in the journey of learning and development provides a unique and pastoral opportunity to grow and learn.

Individuals can choose to attend all days, or selected days as relevant to their own professional needs and education.

This is the first time that the program specifically brings together professional development opportunities for ordained Deacons with Deacon candidates for shared learning and growth.

The Pastoral Strengths Conference – Spirituality in Untrusting Waters

The Pastoral Strength Conference is a collaborative initiative of Uniting, Wesley Mission, United Theological College and The Uniting Church in Australia Synod of NSW and ACT. It is designed to nurture, connect, strengthen and provide professional development for pastoral practitioners working within multi-faith organisations. We invite you to join with us for this special event.

Monday 4th February 2019, 8:30am to 6pm
Tuesday 5th February 2019, 8:30am to 5pm. With conference dinner from 7pm to 10pm.
Wednesday 6th February 2019 , 8:30am to 12pm

The Conference will be anchored by Padraig O’ Tuama, an Irish author, poet and peace builder. Padraig is the director of the Corrameela Peace Community that brings communities in conflict together to build understanding, peace and relationships.

The keynote speaker is Rev Dr Storm Swain, Associate Professor, Pastoral Care and Theology. Storm is New Zealand born and now lives in New York. Her PhD and her CPE supervisory practice expand on her experiences of working with the chaplains at the 9/11 ground zero mortuary. As we are living in a world surrounded by acts of violence and trauma, her wisdom will help us develop our capabilities.

The Pastoral Strength Conference is an interfaith event; so pastoral practitioners working within multi-faith organisations are very welcome to attend.

Cost $850 – $950, see Conference website (link provided below)
Please Note: Deacon Candidates are eligible for a 50% discount, but must register by Monday 21 January 2019.
